The BCPA is committed to providing educational opportunities through the performing arts. The Student Spotlight program offers a season of shows each year specifically designed for teachers and students...including Life-Long Learners!...and serves over 7,000 students annually.

Student Spotlight shows help teachers meet Illinois Learning Standards on a wide variety of subjects, including Performing Arts, English Language Arts, History, Science, and Math. Attending Student Spotlight shows is a multi-faceted opportunity for learning. This isn't merely a trip to the theatre, although arts and humanities are important to study on their own. All shows are curriculum-connected and, as they enter the venue, students are exposed to unique architecture in an important and historic location.

Spotlight Attendance Information
BCPA staff recommends appropriate grade levels and provides teachers' guides for those levels based on content of performance, manner of presentation, and the recommendations of local educators. Teachers at other grade levels may consider bringing their students to a performance if they find the material suitable. However, be advised that students more than three grade levels from those recommended may experience some dissatisfaction. Please call the Box Office at (309) 434-2777 if you have questions about this issue.

Teacher Guides

Each school's contact will receive a teacher’s guide for each performance. Teachers' guides include background information about the performance company, the content and background of the performance, pre- and post-performance activities, and local resources and bibliographies.

Also included in your packet will be details about audience manners, parking locations, and directions to our site. PLEASE READ THESE CAREFULLY to make your visit to the BCPA an enjoyable one.
